Phoebe Hood

'Heritage Design'

I was asked to explore and investigate an innovative house, built in the Tudor period, Hardwick Old hall. I analysed the relationship between the ruins of the standing building and its surroundings, whilst developing my understanding of contemporary culture and conservation of ruins.

My focal point for this project was powerful women in the 16th century, women such as Bess of Hardwick, Queen Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scotts and how they were scrutinised for behaviour and actions because of their gender.

My intervention was a temporary installation, it was open to the public for the entire month of March in 2020 to celebrate international womens day and make people aware and educate them on gender issues and equality.
